DELL A. RICHARD

I was born and grew up in Iowa, where my family was and is engaged in operating a nearly 80 year old small business. My wife, Mary, and I graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and came to Iowa City for law school in the summer of 1972. Except for my one year in Des Moines where I served as law clerk to Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice C. Edwin Moore, we have lived in Iowa City since that time. As a member and elder at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, I am involved with church activities at the local, regional and national levels. For many years, much of my outside time was centered around my children's activities, including soccer, baseball and Scouting. In the past 15 years, I have narrowed the scope of my law practice so that I can focus on the kinds of legal issues faced by almost all families during their lives. I believe that most people need an attorney when they:

1) buy or sell real estate;

2) prepare a will;

3) start or purchase a small business;

4) provide care for and/or assistance to an aging parent;

5) have a problem with or as a landlord or tenant;

6) prepare their income tax return; or

7) deal with the probate process after the death of a parent, spouse or loved one.

By concentrating my practice in these areas, I can provide my clients with a primary care attorney in much the same way that a family practice or internal medicine physician serves as a gatekeeper to always be the first person to call when a legal issue arises. By making arrangements with other attorneys I know and trust to handle matters outside my area of concentration, I can provide full service, while maintaining proficiency in my chosen areas of practice.

I practice in the areas of Real Estate, Wills, Estates, Trusts, Estate Planning and Probate, and Corporations and Business Law.

Find a Lawyer
The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements, certification, specialization or self-proclaimed expertise. A description or indication of limitation of practice does not mean that any agency or board has certified such lawyers as specialist or expert in an indicated field of law practice nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. These disclosures are required by the Supreme Court of Iowa.This web site is designed for general information only.
